Forensic Detailing Channel
United Kingdom
Приєднався 21 вер 2015
There are few sources of online independent detailing product reviews. Forensic Detail, with all its limitations, will always aim to be one of them. Product recommendations, best of style videos, brand range reviews, machine polishing demo's, wax making guides, are still to this day at the center of what we do. There is some decent information to be had for outright beginners even through to professionals. I thought it would be a fun thing to do but its evolved beyond that and allowed me to get a closer view of vibrant UK detailing scene.

POTHOLES Why you will never claim successfully
Really helpful again, thanks for all you do with making these things clearer. Do you do anything around the interior detailing side of things? Would be interested to see some videos in this space
I’ve never used ceramic coating but what about u showing say g qecniq
Cleanser no wax, loads of tough acrylic fillers. Great prep polish.
I had a blooming nightmare. I once applied Fusso with a machine polisher and did the entire car and it made a mess from the blooming the next day, i am in hot and humid area and i did it in the garage very humid. It was a nightmare.
yer its a pain but that can happen with lots of products in hot humid areas. Could try the F7 sealant maybe this does not do it.
Looks lush 😊
Im new to using spray sealants. I noticed the Flex Wax doesn't leave the paint with the same level of slickness as a carnauba paste wax. Do you know if the To the Max Wax would give me the slicker surface that I'm looking for or is it unrealistic to expect that?
Ceramic sprays are slick m8
So since you’ve been banging out these videos I’ve picked up, TW Graphene Wax(got Flex free) AF Graphene Scholl W6 Girlfriends car needs a reset after some spray and rinse use. Mine on the other hand is looking fantastic after a light polish with Fiero and two coats of 3.0
It’s not the pre wash mate. You have agitate it.
we never said it was?
It’s all in the buffage Jon all in the buffage🤣🤣🤣
I wonder what the filling/correction ability of something like Micro-Fine & Cleanser polish compare to the usual Autoglym super resin polish
autoglym srp I actually find is quite rich in abrasives. Im not sure on the BH products. The cleanser polish and micro fine dont feel mega brasive to me.
@@ForensicDetailing that's interesting and good to know. Makes sense with BH products being something you can use fairly regularly where SRP never really advertised as that
Another Bilt Hamber video and still no love for Finis Wax? You should give it a mention and go through your impressions of it 😀
Love finis wax
yer I just tend to go for the double speed as its half the price and beads more but finis wax is cool
@@ForensicDetailing I get that. But DSW is the «boring» and functional choice. FW is for the connoisseur, and you strike me as a wax enthusiast 🙂
Are these Bilt Hamber LSP to be used as well as or instead of their Touch On ceramic coating?
I emailed and touch on can be applied over BSD. Definitely aids longevity. Can't comment on the others.
so use these products to prep the paint and put a baseline sealant down. And touch on to maintain if you want to. I tend to prefer to maintain with autowash and their QD. its all personal preference.
@@ForensicDetailing thanks Jon, I’m using Touchless and Auto wash as my regular maintenance, then Korrosol and cleanser fluid to decon. Just waxed it with the liquid wax, so will add some touch on to further protect as I have some to use up. You’ve got me into Bilt Hamber stuff! Lexus advise not to polish due to “self healing” clear coat, so I’m skipping the clay and polish for now.
Do you have to use the Vax solution with this, or can you use it with normal car upholstery cleaner?
I use Vax yes. you can use with upholstery cleaners and APC's that are for use with extraction systems. If you use harsh cleaners you can damage the poly carb or other components in the machine.
👍👍😊
A seasoned pro can most definitely clay a car without marring the paint. Wont get away with it every time for sure, but it can be achieved by an expert hand. If the car is heavily contaminated, the chances reduce dramatically of course! Its a judgement call every time, once claying is complete. I see a LOT more damage caused by bad machine polishing than claying! You are right to point out don't waste clear coat! Great channel that even us pro's watch for the excellent product reviews. Mind you I wish you hadn't let the cat out of the bag about KKD Citrus Magic, its been hell to get hold of ever since your review!
There’s no way any one can run an abrasive over a painted finish and not causing marring, lying to your self and customers I’m Afraid.
My car is 99% clean after I use touchless in my snow foam cannon 🎉
Jon what do you think of Mothers California Gold Wax?
26:58 bless you
So, Jon. Do I use Cleanser-Fluid after using after or before using Cleanser-polish, please. 🙏❤️
Before
@@LSD04thanks.
dont use cleanser fluid by default. use it to serve a purpose. its a hydro carbon panel wipe cleaner, it will break down , grease and oil, it will soften tar film prior to claying, it will remove the remanents of old wax etc... so if you need the above function use it. If you dont then use your polish primer.
@@ForensicDetailingthanks, Jon
Thank you for all these teachable demonstrations with your candid explanations 👍. No doubt in my mind you’re’ Detailing Aristotle 👌🫡. Always contemplating dilemmas of whic products would be appropriate for it’s intended usage🫡. Thank you Jon🫡
and you are the type of viewer that keeps me doing this. Thank you David you are a legend
Try get your hands on ADBL products. Polish company very popular in Ireland and across Europe. Similar to bilt hamber with product range and highly concentrated . Not many English speaking reviews for such a popular brand
i can agree, ADBL has some really great products
@@johanmil152never see them compared anywhere, not in English anywyas but very competitive products
A good indication a brand has potential is one of the bigger online detailing distributors will take it on. I look at ADBL and their prices can be beaten by estblished offerings. theres also nothing really innovative in the line up. Its not glaedmorous enough to get the attention of the driveway enthusiast. And its not cheap enough or established enough distribution to reach the pro valters using autosmart or other estblished lines. Ill drill in and give you an example. They sell a clay cloth for 18 quid. You can go into halford and by the farecla clay mit for 15 quid. Whos going to go out of their way to try the ADBL when its more expensive. How can ADBL make they clay cloth go viral and start selling them??? Ask this question for each product in their line up. Their DA15 polisher 229 quid. Chinese made. You can buy these for 130-150. their range looks very competant though. But UK is a tough tough tough market.
could i youse a drill with a pad to do this, as long as i keep moving it?
you can mate but its not ideal.
Good info thanks, got a small list of stuff to go and buy for my van now 😅
An idea for the Bilt Hamber website : have a program, where one can choose the different issues you want to tackle or that your car has to face (mud, salt, sand, a car stored outside or inside, age of the car/paintwork etc etc) and then it would give a result of the list of products to use and in the correct order. That would be very helpfull indeed.
I wanted to ask can you put sonax bsd on top of speed wax in 2 weeks time to increase the durability and water behaviour should extend the protection
you can mate yes
@@ForensicDetailing That's Good to know my father has the doublespeed and bsd at hand he's not a detailer but it washs his car every week by himself, I'll inform him what to do
I have one, paid about 12quid, awesome value still. I have no access to hose so use it with ONR
Great tip on the cleanser polish 👌 What pad are you using never seen that one before
thats the flex finishing pad mate
Clear and very helpful for anyone new not knowing what to buy. I bought the double wax based on a (comparison i think) video of yours years ago when i first started and still have it now. it was a great recommendation (as per a lot of things i've bought form your channel and thoughts. Like you say, in this case, thin is def best; which i found out hand applying it on a dry sponge. Tip is from using it a lot, get the sponge applicator wet, ring it out so it's barely damp. Makes it much easier to get a small amount onto the applicator with a simple press an twist. It helps then spread the layer in a more consistent way once you get it on the panel making the buff easier.
Hi could you please convince Bilt Hamber to make some soft top cleaning and protective products. I have a (new to me) 2016 Beetle (Bibi) cabrio that I want to give the attention it needs. Pretty please. I love Bilt Hamber, but I am still confused to what products I should have, to wash Bibi every two weeks in Belgian weather (weather comparative to England) Do I stick with the following routine or am I getting things in the wrong order or missing a step ? 1. Pre wash with Touch less to get rid of the largest grime 2. Put on Auto-wheel on the weels every two weeks and once a month on the paintwork to get rid of the iron fall out 3 Wash the car with Auto-wash which has anti corrosive properties. 4. Use Atom-mac on the brakes to prevent rusting 5. Use Trace-less for the windows. Once a year 6. Use the Cleanser polish to fill in the marring Every three months 7. Use Double-speed wax to wax the paintwork. Or am I better off with Auto-balm, as it also has anti corrosion properties as the car isn't new new ? But when do I use then Touch-on ? After or before the wax or instead of the Auto-wash ? I also would like to have a yearly regime on how to care for the undercarriage and cavities to treat and prevent rust. I can't be alone in wanting to know more about that ? Love your channel ! Keep up the good work.
can use surfex in extractor systems for soft top cleaning.
@@ForensicDetailing thank you
@@mleys3248so as Jon said above, use Surfex HD at 10% or 5% to clean the soft top. For protection use Fabsil as BH don’t make soft top protection products. Use Surfex or Touchless and jack up the car to treat the under carriage and atom mac to prevent rust from taking hold. Wash using Auto Wash, then apply touch on or apply the wax and then on the next wash apply touch on as a topper.
I find Surfex at 10:1 better than anything else on my 718 Roof.
@@robsx4280 Thank you very much. I will give this a try.
👍👍 love BH but difficult to buy here in EU 😭
I have a 2006 Ford F150 truck, the scratches were about 3/10 so 10 being destroyed clear coat, 0 being flawless. I used the orange pad and two full sets over the hood. It turned out just fine, I’d say I got it to 1/10 which was except able to me. No heavy pressure just let the pad and compound do the work. The speed was 5/6 on a Meguiars polisher and my movement was about a 2 inches per second under hot outside conditions about 28degrees Celsius. 👍
Cheap option for storage is a couple bin bags and some parcel tape. I've currently got two seats on my worksurface in the kitchen and scored it exactly like you did to yours. I've now learnt to stand it with a microfibre, one on each corner! These came up really well!
Bouncers done&dusted remains the best for me
She's an absolute beauty john...
I don’t get these products. I’ll wash the car then a day later it’ll be covered in dust, pollen, insect shit etc. Is this product safe for removing this ? When does it get to the point of having to wash the car again anyway ? At the moment i’m getting birds shitting on my car daily. Using the KOCH-CHEMIE FSE QUICK DETAILER at the moment and have done for years (mainly because of water spots after washing)
not really safe mate. no. light dust and pollen you cuold use it. not inserts or bird crap really.
Looks a good product, however i find i go back to what i know and trust, my favourite being Cobalt by Autosmart, and Stjarnagloss products are amazing, as are AutoFinesse
I would like to see gtechniq QD and meguiars professional 34 final inspection
As far as clay mitts go the G3 is the best one I have found so far. It is great for a more rapid decontamination job, when time is more limited. I tend to start with this to get the bulk of it off and then finish with Bilt Hamber soft clay bar for a belt and braces job.
you gotta clean your nails, man, no chick gonna let those fingers inside
Does the bilt hamber qd mask strong hydrophobics from a wax or sealant? Anyone can answer if they use it btw.
At 20:1, it does nothing beyond being a good drying aid. At 5:1 it adds loads of gloss and looks stunning (on my 3yr old always protected ford blue) over DSW or bsd. Not tried stronger than that because 5:1 is just lovely and dead easy to use.
Fluid ounce is 28ml , like a shot of alcohol. Same thing.
Shito Shuto electric £3.41. Needs using a week or two to month until dead . Funny. Eddie Eagle made me laugh.
Soft 99.need nothing else 🤪
Try get ahold and of some of the ADBL range of products. Polish company extremely popular here in Ireland. Would love a comparison with BH products, particularly alkaline snow foam, iron remover and wheel cleaners
Just checked my local place D&D Detailing over here in Cork and it's €16.00. Still too much though.
Would love you to do a in-depth review of bead hero. I’ve had fantastic results. It’s a little expensive but the slickness, and beads are top notch
Hmm, not enough products from Hamber for me, it instills a lack of confidence. Once they have a 74 year ceramic coating, an interior ceramic condition ultimate iron removing hybrid all in one tire cleaner, I will give them a chance….
Hi Jon could you review Polishangel Rapid Waxx?. Best spray wax I have come across.
proper old school solvent based wax emulsion mate. beads well but its overpriced for what it is. I think price is the biggest problem with polish angel. people wont pay the money for it mate.
For £38.45 for 500ml it would have to enable the car to drive on water!
Interesting, can you give our subscribers a honest explanation John why Sonax Bsd is not your favourite choice for a quick detailer will be nice to know 😊
yer the gloss readings are low with it. its also thick and glupey and sticky and not slick. It beads like crazy though and its decent price.
I've never found it sticky or hard to apply. Its a perfect winter product in my opinion.
You right about the price , that’s way to high , I can get a good detailer spray from infinity wax for £10 or their QDX ceramic detailer for £14.
